THE BROAD FOUNDATION VISIT: AN HONOR AND OPPORTUNITY
For the second year in a row GCPS, Georgia's largest school system, is a finalist for the prestigious national award. The Broad Foundation funds a $2 million annual prize which honors large urban school systems that have demonstrated the greatest overall performance and improvement in student achievement in the nation while reducing achievement gaps among income and ethnic groups. As a finalist, the school system will receive $250,000 in scholarships for students graduating in 2011. The winner of the prize wins $1 million in scholarships for its students.  Unlike many traditional scholarships that are awarded only to top-tier students, Broad Prize scholarships are awarded to graduating seniors who have a demonstrated record of improving their grades over the course of their high school career and have a financial need

On Wednesday, site committees went to Norcross High School and Berkmar Middle School, visiting classrooms and talking to students about what they were learning. Members of the site committee are also speaking to teachers, principals, district leaders, school board members and parents during their visit.

NHS is proud that we were tapped to represent everything that is good and right about urban education in Gwinnett County.  We want to thank everyone for all their hard work in preparation for our visitors.

Update: go2.gwinnett Parent Portal
Gwinnett County Public Schools offers the go2.gwinnett Parent Portal as a tool to enhance the parent communication and involvement in their child's academic achievement. Through this online resource, parents can monitor their child's academic progress and attendance on an ongoing basis. In order to access this resource, parents must complete a form in person at Norcross HS and present a picture ID. Upon confirmation of guardianship through school records, parents will receive an email with token information to log in to the Parent Portal.
